The Sewall Woods Digital Trail Project: The Sewall Woods Digital Trail Project is a collaboration between the Kennebec Estuary Land Trust (KELT), KELT's Education Coordinator Becky Kolak, Joan Newkirk’s third-grade class at Fisher Mitchell School, and Monica Wright’s seventh-grade students from BMS. The project was originally funded with a Project Learning Tree GreenWorks! grant.

We focused on the Sewall Woods section of the popular five-mile-long Whiskeag Trail which winds its way through Bath. The students created a digital interpretative guide—the first of its kind in the region!—that can be accessed online or on the trail by QR (Quick Response) technology, activated by smart-mobile phones. The project incorporated learning about the natural history of a local forest, an authentic purpose for writing, poetry, and using technology to enable others to learn about a section of the preserve.

During this session we will share our experiences with collaboration, learning about the QR app, and how the project impacted our students. Presenters: Becky Kolak and Joan Newkirk
